Terms of Use

Six hundred words that are true, rather than four thousand nobody reads.

USING THE MACHINE. Use it for the things it is for. Do not use it to break the law, to attack the site or anyone else through it, or to process material you have no right to. That is the whole acceptable-use policy for now, because right now every open-shelf tool runs in your own browser and nothing you do reaches a server of ours. A longer policy, with a takedown route, arrives with the Power Shelf — the moment files touch a server it becomes a real obligation rather than a paragraph.

IT IS IN BETA, AND IT IS AS-IS. The label in the menu bar means what it says: this is being built. Everything you can see works, and it is offered without warranty of any kind. Tools may change, move or be withdrawn, and a tool that is on the bench today may never arrive. Keep your own copy of anything you care about — this machine is not storage and does not pretend to be.

YOUR FILES AND YOUR WORK ARE YOURS. Inserting a file here transfers nothing to us, and neither does making something with a tool or drawing something in Paintbrush. We claim no licence over any of it. The site itself — its code, its design, its writing and its artwork — is ours.

BITS ARE NOT MONEY. They are a score the machine keeps. They have no cash value, they cannot be bought, sold or transferred, they are not property, and they can vanish if you clear your site data. They unlock finishes for the desk and nothing else. Any future use for them will be described before it exists, not promised now.

THE ARCADE. The games are original implementations of very old ideas, written for this site. No code or artwork from any commercial version is used, and no trademark is claimed — which is why the falling-block game is called BLOCKS.EXE.

WHAT IS NOT HERE YET. There are no payment terms, because nothing costs money. There are no retention terms for files, because the tools that would keep one — the Power Shelf — have not been built. Accounts do exist, are optional, and hold an email address and three numbers; the privacy page says where, and the Passport window deletes one at once. There is no takedown route, because nothing is hosted here to take down. Each of those is a launch requirement for the Power Shelf, and each will be written before the thing it governs exists. Speculative clauses about a service that does not exist would make this page longer and less true.
