Bits are deposited every time a tool finishes a job. They are worth mostly nothing today — the intent is that they will count toward merchandise from the machine when that counter opens. No rate, no date, no promises we would have to walk back.

How it works
- Use any tool on the open shelf. Every finished job deposits bits.
- The LED in the menu bar counts them up. The Bit Bank window shows the balance.
- They stay on this machine unless you make an account, at which point they merge with it — additively, none lost.
Questions, answered honestly
- What are bits worth?
- Right now, nothing you can spend. They are a score. The intent is that they will eventually count toward merchandise from the machine, and members of the 1,000,000 BIT CLUB will be remembered — but no rate and no date has been set, and we would rather say that plainly than promise something we would have to walk back.
- Where are my bits stored?
- In this browser, on this machine. Clear your site data and they are gone. Nothing about your bits is sent anywhere.
- Do I need an account?
- No. Accounts are being built, and they will let bits follow you between machines instead of living in one browser. Logging in will never be required to use an open-shelf tool.
- What happens to my bits when I log in?
- They merge. Local bits are added to the account balance — additive, never replaced, so nobody loses a balance by signing up.
