Every job you run deposits bits. They unlock finishes for the machine, they cost you nothing, and they are not money.

Bits are deposited every time a tool finishes a job or a game ends. They buy the machine’s finish — two of the five themes in Settings are locked until your balance reaches them, and unlocking one deducts nothing. Beyond that, the intent is that they will count toward merchandise from the machine when that counter opens. No rate, no date, no cash value, no promises we would have to walk back.

How it works

  1. Use any tool on the open shelf, or play anything in the arcade. Every finished job deposits bits.
  2. The LED in the menu bar counts them up. The Bit Bank window shows the balance.
  3. Spend them on the machine’s finish: Settings → Themes. A locked theme opens when your balance reaches it, and stays open.
  4. They stay on this machine unless you make an account, at which point they merge with it — additively, none lost.

Questions, answered honestly

What are bits worth?
They buy the machine’s finish. Two of the five themes in Settings are locked until your balance reaches them, and unlocking one costs nothing and takes nothing away — the balance stays where it is. Beyond that they are a score. The intent is that they will eventually count toward merchandise from the machine, and members of the 1,000,000 BIT CLUB will be remembered, but no rate and no date has been set. Bits are not currency, they have no cash value, and they cannot be bought.
Do I lose bits when I unlock a theme?
No. A theme opens when your balance reaches its number and stays open; nothing is deducted. It is a threshold, not a price.
Where are my bits stored?
In this browser, on this machine. Clear your site data and they are gone. Until you make an account, nothing about your bits is sent anywhere.
Do I need an account?
No. Accounts are being built, and they will let bits follow you between machines instead of living in one browser. Logging in will never be required to use an open-shelf tool.
What happens to my bits when I log in?
They merge. Local bits are added to the account balance — additive, never replaced, so nobody loses a balance by signing up. What syncing sends is the balance and the list of stamps you have earned, not what you converted or what your files were called.
